Liposuction is a technique in which high pressure vacuum suction is used to remove fat cells through a small incision. This is primarily a treatment removal of unwanted fat deposits from the body.

Liposuction is only a method of removing localized fat, which cannot be lost through dieting or exercise.

Tummy tuck

Abdominoplasty or "tummy tuck" is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle of the abdomin wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose tissues after pregnancy or individuals with sagging after major weight loss.

The procedure can dramatically reduce the appearance of the abdomen. Bear in mind, it does produce a permanent scar, which, depending on the extent of the original problem and the surgery required to correct it, can extend from hip to hip.

There are different forms of tummy tucks depending on the individual cause of the problems which the patient wants to address. In some cases tummy tucks are performed in conjunction with liposuction if there are fatty deposits to be removed.

The tummy tuck is a procedure performed under general anesthetic to counteract flabby skin, loss of muscle tone and excess fat in the tummy area.
